Drop the World - Eminem + Lil Wayne Update

Gettin a bit blog crazy today, but I just got so much I need to discuss!! :)

It's the full video now, yeaaaaah boy! Big Tune. I swear down Eminem does not age...

Zora and Alice

There is a blog I follow called b.vikkki Vintage which 'features vintage advertising campaigns and fashion editorials from Black/African-American publications, video clips and found photographs featuring people of color from the 1950s-1960s'. I love it because she puts up a lot of stuff that you have never seen before, and would have to spend hours, days and years trying to hunt down! She got the contacts!

There have been no posts recently, but this is due to her currently freelancing at Zora&Alice which is a new blog and monthly magazine aiming to start a new conversation about black women.

Visit the site to fill out the pre-release questionnaire. They are also looking for writers to contribute, so get involved!

Read more below:

The Mission:

Zora&Alice magazine’s mission is to be the premier online destination for quality reporting and analysis on issues that affect contemporary, young black women. At any given time, we hope to accomplish three of the four:

  • To provide a fresh, intelligent voice for young black women
  • To empower and uplift young black women as they develop unique identities
  • To support and promote young black women as entrepreneurs, creators and pioneers
  • To wear power pumps and rule the world like the stone cold forces we know ourselves to be

About the Name:

Our name is inspired by the collection ” I Love Myself When I’m Laughing…And Then Again When I’m Looking Mean & Impressive,” an anthology of works by Zora Neale Hurston and edited by Alice Walker. Zora Neale Hurston was an iconoclast, underappreciated and condemned for her independence, whose many contributions to American literary canon would have been ignored were it not for the persistence of those she inspired, including Walker.

We’re looking for editors, writers, photographers, artists, and more to help with the launch. To learn more about contributing, click here

Professor Green- I need you tonite

So another dance classic has been rinsed, but I gota admit I'm feeling this one and the video is pretty funny!

Plan B

I remember when me and CometGirl first saw Plan B in 2005 at 100 Club in Oxford Street. It was so sick because then, things were not as trendy and venues didn't seem as mass-populated!! He was supporting Saul Williams, so it was quite a line-up to be fair.

Anyway, back then Plan B was on some whole other shit, which we totally loved. Tunes like 'Charmaine', 'Sick to Death' and 'Dead and Buried' were all bangers, and I loved the British spoken word style he was rocking.

Now though, Plan B has made a musical comeback and is showing us his varied influences with his new sound. I'm really feeling the whole sweet singing thing, but I think there are mixed reviews about the new sound. Whatever though, music is about progression and developing, so all the haters can swing one because we are big Plan B fans up in here!

Here is the new video for 'Writings on the Wall'

This tune kind of reminds me of Charles and Eddie - 'Would I lie to you' (Big Tune!)

V64 Spring 2010

'All the World’s a Stage’ is a shoot taken from this season's V Magazine. I think it's amazing, very random, but proper fun to flick through!

Styled by Robbie Spencer.

Shot by photographer Richard Burbridge.

Balmain Dresses!

OMD I think that pretty much every dress at the Balmain show on 4th March in Paris, was siiiick!! Allow all of the suits, but boy oh boy, I'd rock every one of these dresses! This season Christophe Decarnin has gone Baroque 'n' roll.

Who the Fuck is Alice?

So I'm off to see the new Disney remake of the classic Alice in Wonderland next week and am overly excited!! Is it me or does it feel like the rumors of this film being made by Tim Burton started yonks ago? I had pretty much forgotten about it when I saw the adverts on the bus!...Whatever though, it's here, and I'm going 3-D so it should be an experience which (I hope) will be worth the wait!

It all looks amazing though and it'll be great to see the characters come to life through the hyper HD world of Tim Burton and Disney.

Watch the trailer here if you haven't already!

Political Nails!

I just saw this on the Vice Blog, and they are wiiiiiicked! I think a trip down to Diamond Nail Spa, Hackney is in order!! Uff political figures though, on one hand I'm gettin Aaliyah, Mariah, Erykah, Janet and Lauryn. And on the other hand I'm going for Tupac, Biggy, Eminem, Guru and Mos.

Oh my God, this could set off a proper nail frenzy man!! You could have like, reggae nails aswell and get Bob, Sizzla, Movado, etc, etc, etc!! OH MY DAYZZZZ, the nail ladies need to get their portrait skills up!!

Gareth Pugh A/W 2010

This collection has me slightly baffled to be honest. Some of it is what you would expect from Pugh- amazingly well pattern cut, intricate designs with beautiful detailing and something you may not. Clothes that look like they are a cross between The Matrix movie and a Village People comeback tour. Some of the guys stuff is shocking! It just doesn't work- far too feminine for me, thinks it safe to say the ladies hold the power in Gareth's world. Damn fucking right!

Freeness!

So we usually give you guys a free mixtape download on the weekends but I got so excited by this I had to post it now! Sway is giving us a lil present in the form of The Delivery Mixtape, available for free download via his website. Lav. lav, lav the freeness- especially when it comes from one of the sickest UK mc's on the scene.

First Thursdays

OK so this may be a lil late for this as it is happening tonight, but TimeOut have organised an event called First Thursday. The first Thursday of every month hundreds of galleries and museums in East London will be open late and mostly for free. So a great opportunity to still get ya culture on if your skint. And they are also do a bus tour thing that takes you on a little tour of happening places in East.

Estelle-Freak

This whole trend of rinsing off old dance classics needs to get dead. I'm sick of hearing them man, I can count 8 current tunes off the top of my head that use sick dance samples and make them sound like mediocre pop tunes- eugh! Do something new people instead of regurgitating the same stuff. Anyway here's another one for you, Estelle with Freak, pretty damn terrible if you ask me (and she looks far too much like Missy in her skinny days for my liking).

So I watched the first 20 seconds before deciding I had to blog about how shite this was, then I thought let me go back and give it another go, turned it off at 1.12 min- so bad it's fucking painful!

The Dispossessed.

If you read the Evening Standard this week you will see they have been highlighting the huge wealth divide within London as a pre general election story, emphasising the lack of attention this issue is receiving from all political parties. And if you live in the real world you will already know everything they have to tell you.  They talk about the 'hidden deprivation' in London, but it is far from hidden. The pricks that work there obviously commute from their 5 storey Georgian homes in Knightsbridge to their plush central London offices, socialising in supposedly upper class areas such as Islington with their blinkers on! You just need to look around any area in London to witness the extreme poverty and deprevation a vast percentage of Londers are dealing with.
As much as I HATE the naivety of such journalists I also have to commend them for bringing to light a massive social issue that we can all help resolve. Yeah I know some of you may read the articles about young Londoners and like most of the commentator's on the website blame the parents. But we can not hold these young people responsible for circumstances under which they have no control.
The recession has left alot of people jobless, but it also means a lot of young people can't find jobs because of the lack of vacancies. Reading their stories made me feel extremly grateful for my poorly paid job! And also made me realise what I can do to help. As mentioned in the ES, we could all dedicate not only financial help if possible but also our time. There are hundreds of agencies in desperate need of volunteers, it could be something as simple as giving up 2 hours a month to take a teenager to an art gallery (for which you will be paid expenses) or volunteering at your local youthclub 2 evenings a week. But whatever help you can give will be just that, a helping hand to dispossessed young people.
I don't want to sound preachy at all here, but I realised I can piss and moan all day long about the injustices young Londoners face or I can actually do something about it, so after writing this I am going to fill out my volunteer application form.
If you fancy getting involved in something check out the links below or check out your local councils website-

Cassette Playa x Stussy Capsule Collection Preview

Throwbaaaack! Is the inspiration for the Cassette Playa x Stussy Collection. A part of me wishes that I was into Stussy and Cassette Playa, but I just never have been. My ex-boyfreind always wore Stussy, so I just associate that with geeky boys who pretend they don't care about fashion, and Cassette Playa usually just makes me think of new rave which makes me want to be sick....However, on this occasion I don't mind some of the peices, like I think I would rock the jacket, but I think the rest of the collection is too young for me now :(

It's good to see a young female designer (Carrie Munden) doin her thing though, especially coming out of East London, brap brap brap!
