Alexander McQueen biography

Can you believe the quickness of this book?! I suppose it has been a little while since McQueen's tragic death...but boy!

So anyway, Elle has reported that the first McQueen autobigraphy entitled 'Alexander McQueen, Genius of a Generation' is being released on 7th May.

The book takes a look back at McQueen's incredible life and career, charting his rise from East End childhood to bad boy ruler of the fashion world until his tragic death in February this year. It also includes over 120 images of his most memorable creations.

Dagmar

I was just looking over the blog when I realised we've been slacking hard on the fashion front! And to be honest it's because not much has really got me going fashion wise for a lil while. But while I was in Islington this afternoon I popped into Diverse boutique, which has a lovely mixture of labels from high-end designers to pretty girly to sporty chic. While mooching around I came across Dagmar, which I have seen somewhere before but not really paid much attention too, but having a second look I realised they have some real nice pieces. Have a butchers-

Ooooooo this looks good!

Janelle Monae

I love me some Janelle Monae, her new song and video is sick (can't remember if I posted it before? So I stuck it at the bottom). I just came across her new album cover which I am loving!! As much as I love the whole tux and tie thing she's been rockin for a while now I am very happy to see a new side of her, what do you reckon?

Grace Jones

I think we can  all agree wor Grace is the baddest chick ever! You just gota love her honesty, this is what she had to say about GaGaGoGo-

What does she think of her?
"I really don't think of her at all. I go about my business."
Has she copied her?
"Well, you know, I've seen some things she's worn that I've worn, and that does kind of piss me off."
Is she talented?
"I wouldn't go to see her."
So, did she ask to play with her?
"Yes, she did, but I said no. I'd just prefer to work with someone who is more original and someone who is not copying me, actually."

Ahahaa shuuuut ya mouth GaGa! Read the rest of it here

More Ciara

SWAGGA, SWAGGA, SWAGGA....She kills it man in the style terms, but the MC'ing is waaaaste!!!!

Ride - Ciara

Oh my daaaayz, this video just reminded me of how much I love Ciara, her swag is like no other chicks swag man! She has just the right amount of lady but can sure bring out that bad gal tomboy look too......I think Ciara is the only girl I'm jealous of in terms of coolness to be honest, allow her skinny frame though! Men may be lovin the way she 'rides' the beat, but they sure aint gonna have much to hold onto!.....Put on som weight CC!

Much props on this video though, then moves are cruuuuunk. Makes me wanna book a ticket to the ATL right now ya huuurd!

Erykah Badu on Dilla

So in a recent interview with RWD mag Ms Badu said this about Dilla-
He was the real deal. He is the most amazing track producer that I have ever heard. He has this [hums] that we call 'the funk'. Working in a studio, he was very shy, very quiet, He had a disease called Lupus so I can imagine he was in pain alot. Because he was so shy, I often teased him. I was dating Common at the time, and every time Common would leave the room I would walk across slowly and be like 'Now, it's just me and you, we're finally alone'. He would be very shy like 'Oh no', and he [Common} would come back into the room and I would straighten up. Common knew what was goin on of course, be he would come back and say 'E don't do that!' [Laughs].
Hmmmm just a bit of harmless flirting or an indication of Erykah's insatiable sexual appetite and rumoured sexual prowess? And maybe a lil insight into the reasons behind the demise of her and Common's relationship- or maybe I'm just thinkin bout this too deep!

Circolombia & Roundhouse Circus Company

All you under 26's out there will prob be most interested in this one. The Roundhouse in Camden, is putting on a 4 day circus extravaganza that includes performances from Roundhouse Circus Company, Colombia's Circolombia and Crescer E Viver, Brazil's first social circus company. Here's a lil insight into each group-
The Roundhouse Circus Company, a new collective of acrobats, dancers, actors and circus artists formed in the tunnels beneath the Roundhouse have come together to create a new adaptation of the tragic tale of Echo and Narcissus. This deeply physical representation is the culmination of eight months of preparation, company development and rehearsal. This first work together as an ensemble twists, turns and tumbles into this premiere, utilising the company’s various backgrounds, and many talents.

The city of Cali, a place of joy and violence, provides the source for Circolombia’s freestyle portrait of a society where dance and music are the safety valves of everyday life. The exuberant young artists marry volcanic energy with a contemporary urban aesthetic to produce a flamboyant display of awe-inspiring acrobatics and dance. Their latest work, Urban, showcases the best from the Colombian national circus school, Circo Para Todos, where members of Circolombia trained.

Watch a video of Circolombia on our Facebook page.

Cirque du Demain is the prestigious competition that annually awards the very best circus acts in the world. Circolombia wowed audiences in 2009 and went home with bronze - a massive achievement, making them one of the most respected and sought after acts around.
This event run's from Thurs 6th to Sun 9th May, you can cop your tickets here. But Like I said at the beginning you under 26's will prob be most interested as you can cop free tickets from ere!

RIP Guru x

I can't believe that another legend has passed...This moving letter was written by Guru before he died. For any of you that ever saw Guru perform, you will know and understand how moving this letter is. He was so full of energy and life and introduced me into the world of more concious hip hop (along with others). He will be greatly missed! May you rest in peace Guru!

I, Guru, am writing this letter to my fans, friends and loved ones around the world. I have had a long battle with cancer and have succumbed to the disease. I have suffered with this illness for over a year. I have exhausted all medical options.
I have a non-profit organization called Each One Counts dedicated to carrying on my charitable work on behalf of abused and disadvantaged children from around the world and also to educate and research a cure for this terrible disease that took my life. I write this with tears in my eyes, not of sorrow but of joy for what a wonderful life I have enjoyed and how many great people I have had the pleasure of meeting.
My loyal best friend, partner and brother, Solar, has been at my side through it all and has been made my health proxy by myself on all matters relating to myself. He has been with me by my side on my many hospital stays, operations, doctors visits and stayed with me at my home and cared for me when I could not care for myself. Solar and his family is my family and I love them dearly and I expect my family, friends, and fans to respect that, regardless to anybody's feelings on the matter. It is my wish that counts. This being said I am survived by the love of my life, my sun KC, who I trust will be looked after by Solar and his family as their own. Any awards or tributes should be accepted, organized approved by Solar on behalf myself and my son until he is of age to except on his own.
I do not wish my ex-DJ to have anything to do with my name likeness, events tributes etc. connected in anyway to my situation including any use of my name or circumstance for any reason and I have instructed my lawyers to enforce this. I had nothing to do with him in life for over 7 years and want nothing to do with him in death. Solar has my life story and is well informed on my family situation, as well as the real reason for separating from my ex-DJ. As the sole founder of GangStarr, I am very proud of what GangStarr has meant to the music world and fans. I equally am proud of my Jazzmatazz series and as the father of Hip-Hop/Jazz. I am most proud of my leadership and pioneering efforts on Jazzmatazz 4 for reinvigorating the Hip-Hop/Jazz genre in a time when music quality has reached an all time low. Solar and I have toured in places that I have never been before with GangStarr or Jazzmatatazz and we gained a reputation for being the best on the planet at Hip-Hop/Jazz, as well as the biggest and most influential Hip-Hop/Jazz record with Jazzmatazz 4 of the decade to now. The work I have done with Solar represents a legacy far beyond its time. And we as a team were not afraid to push the envelope. To me this is what true artists do! As men of honor we stood tall in the face of small mindedness, greed, and ignorance. As we fought for music and integrity at the cost of not earning millions and for this I will always be happy and proud, and would like to thank the million fans who have seen us perform over the years from all over the world. The work I have done with Solar represents a legacy far beyond its time and is my most creative and experimental to date. I hope that our music will receive the attention it deserves as it is some of the best work I have done and represents some of the best years of my life.

Nollywood

So apparently the Nigerian film industry is the second highest grossing in the world, behind Bollywood (and yes before Hollywood). Something I never realised, to be fair I've never watched a Nigerian film to my knowledge, but I'm gona get on it now- any suggestions would be good. This ever expanding African industry became the spotlight for South African photographer Pieter Hugo, who turned his lenses on some of Nollywood's biggest stars. Check out some of the pics below. And if you happen to be a New Yorker get down too Yossi Milo Gallery through April 17 to see the snaps in real life.
