Sara Kruzan

I was around a friends last night who campaigns HARD for different people who are on Death Row or are facing life imprisonment in the USA. This particular case stood out though because all you have to do is listen to her story to feel an overwhelming sense of sadness for this girl...I'll let the video below do the talking, because to be honest, it just doesn't make sense to me.

If any of you ladies who watch this would like to write to Sara, let me know and I will forward her address.

A few bits from JCDC Spring/Summer 2010

I friggin love JCDC, imagine a world where everyone dressed in his clothes- yeah you'd need some crazy sun protectors for that!

New D'Angelo

So if we all wish really really hard we might get James River this year- the title of D'Angelo's third studio album. This has been 9 years in the making so I'm sure it's gona be amazing and with rumoured collaboraions with Gnarls Barkley’s Cee-Lo Green,  Raphael Saadiq, Mark Ronson, and Roy Hargrove it looks like it will be. Today I heard a lil' preview on Alexander Nut's radio show Mixed Nuts on Rinse FM (if ya don't know get to know, 1-3pm every Sat) the song titled 1000 deaths is def a diff D'Angelo to what we are used too, but it's still sounds hella good! Go here to listen, it was put up on YouTube for 4 days then taken down due to copyright laws. And while on the subject of D'Angelo you know I had to watch this video for the 1897th time-

Weep

Now I feel really sad that we'll never hear anything new from Dilla. Can you imagine what he would be doing now if he was still alive!? I'm going to spend the rest of the day listening to Dilla songs in preparation for tomorrow evening when I hit the Dilla tribute night at Scala.

Jay get paid.

Something a mate of mine said the other day reminded me of this tune- you know when you forget about a tune, well maybe not forget but it slips into the memory banks somewhere, and then you hear it again and it's like the first time you heard it? Well this is one of them for me, it makes me feel all giddy inside and it is complementing the sunshine perfectly, oh and the video is wicked!

Wonderland!

I was on the bus to work yesterday and saw a larger than life image of Janet Jackson screaming out of a billboard. It certainly opened up my Friday morning eyes, and made me think "I gotta get out and buy that!" I am guilty of not buying a magazine for about a year now, how awful is that? I'm part of the reason places like Borders and Franks closed down, and then I complain that there is know where to buy decent magazines! :(

I have moved on though, and will be buying this issue, beeleee dat!

Paper London

What with Valentines day cropping up soon, I saw these and thought it would be a nice little lovers rock visit, non? Well actually, the pictures at this exhibition won't be all hearts and ting, but they are very delicate and feminine.

Rob Ryan is putting on an exhibition that started last week at Exposure, and is titled 'My London'. It will also feature the work of Stephen Walter, who is in intricate map drawer, hmmmmm! Pics below.

Time Out says:

A joint show of work inspired by the capital: romantic, cut-paper works by Rob Ryan; intricate hand-drawn maps by Stephen Walter.

Fresh Friday's - Nordic B

This week, I am going for something a bit off my radar. And it comes from Quadron....It was one of those random strolls through a random blog when I came across the duo, and the sound kind of reminded me of Lykke Li from Sweden, who was introduced to me by Drake on 'Little Bit', and I'm really feeling her voice. So I thought, let me illegally download this, and see what happens!

Me was impressed!
Quadrons stated goal with the debut is to give the soul scene a vitamin boost and provide an alternative to the american R'n'B that is dominating the charts. They call their music electronic soul, mixing the sound of hand-played instruments with the benefits of today's computer-related techniques. - Myspace
So, Quadron. They are made up of Coco and Robin, who both were part of the soul collective "Boom Clap Bachelors", and in 2008 they decided to pair up and make some Denmark style R'n'B music. I think I could get into this Nordic scene, I shall call it Nordic-B I think?!

Hit up the myspace for some sweet icy sounds! Also buy the album for a mere £10 from itunes by clicking here. (You'll need to change to the denmark store, but itunes'll do it for you!)

Celia the Queen!

I was just watching a programme about Celia Cruz, "The Queen of Latin Music" on BBC4, in fact I am still watching it whilst writing this and trying not to miss any crucial bits!! I had heard her music before and knew she was a bit of a Cuban character, but watching this made me realise how much of a superstar she was! You can buy the documentary aptly titled "Celia the Queen" if you wanna get to know!

This is my fave song by far, later on the Fugees would do a pretty good cover.

Descanse en paz Celia, la reina de la música Latina! x

Matching outfits

I mainly want a man when I think about how sick we would look in matching outfits-
