Laurens charm and directness come through in her vocals, which are delivered with depth and intelligent lyrics. With material that both transcends categorisation and crosses musical boundaries, and a distinctive voice, Lauren has built up a steady following at her live gigs and a solid fan base through the Internet.
Not often compared to other artists, when asking Lauren to describe her style she replied “I call it Urban POP.. If Mike Skinner and Pink where to have a lovechild you would get me”. She is likened to disparate artists ranging from Estelle to Lily Allen because of her energy and lyrical content. While it may be true that the listener weaned on a diet of these performers would find Laurens music easily accessible, there is no mistaking the fact that she has her own, very unique style.
Lauren writes from a perspective of distances, of interludes between lovers and lives and the roads that lead from small towns to big cities. In 2003 Lauren wrote a poem in response to a bitter break up with her first long term partner, which was then written and recorded as the amusing song ‘James’ and this was the spark that ignited her passion for song writing. Dedicated to this art, she likes to rely mainly on personal experience in her song writing.
Laurens deepest aspiration is, and will remain to be, that she provides music that will motivate, move and inspire. And, with a sincere respect and understanding for the healing that music has brought into her life and others around her, she hopes to return this through her voice and the nature of her songs.
