2 less for NY Fashion Week

Monique Lhuillier, spring 2009

"And then there were … two less. Vera Wang, Betsey Johnson, and Carmen Marc Valvo have opted out of Bryant Park runway shows, and now Monique Lhuillier and Naeem Khan have decided to do the same in favor of presentations. Paul Wilmot, whose PR firm represents both designers, said the moves aren't even about saving a quick buck. In fact, Wilmot said the designers might not spend any less money. Apparently they just want to "shake things up a bit." But is this change we can believe in? “Before, there’s that one degree of separation — the press and the buyers get a different sense of the clothing when they’re flying past you on the runway as opposed to being able to stand next to them and having the fashion designer talk about the clothes,” Wilmot says.

Excellent point & presentations could be a better sales strategy. But are they the future while runway shows merely walk the path to Obsolete Park? As Cathy Horyn noted a while back, shows aren't even necessary these days. Anyone can look at the clothes online minutes after they end, and the only function the shows seem to serve is to preserve the egos of the people with the good seats (i.e., that episode of the Real Housewives of New York where Jill storms out of the tents because Ramona got a front-row seat while she got a second-row seat). So bring on the presentations and force the important people to mingle with the lowly bloggers like us. Come fall 2009, everyone's front row!" by Amy Odell

Air Max 90 - Valentines Day

MMMMmmmm, heart much! So if I was into Valentines day, (which when your single is the most bullshit day), I would totally be wanting these as a gift from my man coz they are hot like fire!

"The sneakers are made up in mostly varsity red with white on the sole, midsole and mesh heel. Though it may not look like a women’s sneaker because it lacks the traditional pink or hearts found on most V-Day themed shoes, this Air Max 90 will only be released in women’s size." Via Sneaker Files

A Tribe Called Quest x Air aJordan T-shirts

"Leading up to the release of the A Tribe Called Quest x Air Jordan I (1) “Sole 2 Sole” High Strap Premium Quickstrike are two new Jordan Brand t-shirts revolving around the group’s Midnight Marauders album cover." Via Sneaker Files

Ms Dynamite

I just had a flashback, you know, one of them ones were your like oh shiiiiiiiii.........wha'pen???

I have heard that she's working in the background, not sure what that will be saying, but she did murk it back in the day.........reminisce on the love we had!

D-ba-di the Dynamit-e

This version is a bit extra, doesn't have the classic "Fuck u up like we was cocaine" oh no its edited, hard. And I'm sure I remember the beat being a bit more grimy. In fact I think I had it on some Pure Garage CD where they mash it all up.....

Style notes: Lovin' the hair, in fact I like everything she has going on in this video.

I did bump this tune for way too long when I was at college, reminds me of the summer working as a cleaner in a private girls school! JOY!

Style notes: I'm not gonna lie, back in the day I loved everything she was wearing. I even tried to make a top out of shredded denim! It looked dope at the time. (bearing in mind this is over 6 years old!!)

House of Ninja

Nothing is tickling my fancy today, so lets take it back! Feautured below is a video from the boomtastic film Paris is Burning. Check out king Voguer Willi Ninja doing his thang!

Amy Winhouse for Fred Perry??.....

Amy Winehouse wearing the Jonathan Kelsy Heels last May

I had to put this up here, because I do love Amy, and think she could do good things in fashion if this is for real and she can stay sober, otherwise it would be tragic, because a lot of celebs rely on stylists. If Amy's style is genuine and here to stay then I'm all for it. But if it was just a phase whilst dating that wasteman and being a Camdenite, then it will be shit! She has already lost the beehive, as you may have seen recently in the papers, she is on holiday being a bit mash up still........let's see wha gwan

The Fashion Winehouse

05 January 2009, 10:07AM

SHE has stepped out of the line of paparazzi fire recently but after the annus horribilis that was 2008, word has it that Amy Winehouse is preparing to make a spectacular public comeback - as a fashion designer.

According to the tabloids, the Rehab singer let slip during a festive holiday that she is currently in negotiations with iconic British label Fred Perry and has already started sketching out a few of her ideas.

"She was almost childishly excited and couldn't stop talking about it," a source told The Sun.

She may have spent 2008 beset by personal problems but for some, a Winehouse foray into fashion could seem overdue; not only did her distinctive look dictate the styling of Karl Lagerfeld's Paris-Londres Metiers d'Art collection for Chanel in 2007 but Roberto Cavalli has previously declared her "a fashion icon because she is unique", and London-based footwear designer Jonathan Kelsey created a stiletto, the Amy, in her honour - which she was promptly photographed wearing.

While were on the Subject...

Cheryl Cole, everybody's favourite band member from Girls Aloud has definately upped her game of late. Appearing on Vogue is pretty Major, and British Vogue no less!! She wasn't fobbed off to French or Russian Vogue. The highlights fromVogue.com below do make Cheryl out to be all kind etc, but if you remember Heat Magazine recently, she was supposed to be all Diva-like and grumpy, but then this is not a gossip blog, so allow me for a second!!.........Gwan Cheryl!

Read on......

"CHERYL COLE cements her style icon status this month as the cover girl of the February issue of Vogue, as well as talking candidly about her marriage to football star Ashley Cole and her meteoric rise to fame via Girls Aloud and the X Factor - plus offering up some style tips to music industry mogul Simon Cowell.

"I'm not sure about the way he dresses," she admits. "The trouser waistbands may have gone down, but what is it about those nightie shirts he wears? It's like I really need to take him clothes shopping or something. The Makeover of Simon Cowell by Cheryl Cole - now there's an idea for a show!"

Her enthusiasm - not only for the shoot, by Regan Cameron, but for her work and personal commitments in general - certainly impressed writer Christa D'Souza, who interviewed the starlet three times for the feature.

"She was very flattered to be in Vogue, and that was endearing. She was very genuine," D'Souza tells us. "I mean, this is someone who used to fight to get on the cover of Smash Hits. And the thing is, she's not pretty; she's beautiful. She's got the bone structure, the scaffolding, and incredibly kind eyes."

Out now, the new Vogue is the perfect way to ease yourself into 2009 in style. As well as getting intimate with "our Cheryl", take a first look at spring's hero pieces, read as fashion stars from Christopher Kane to Erin O'Connor reveal their "bad karma" outfits, and go inside the world of political wife and Smythson creative director Samantha Cameron."

Anna Wintour talks in NY

"Anna Wintour declined to be interviewed for Cathy Horyn's story about what's wrong with Vogue. But she will speak to her adoring public at the 92nd Street Y on May 12. Topics of discussion include "cultural impact of Vogue and her philanthropy with Jonathan Tisch," co-chairman of the board of Loews Corporation. A-Dubs doesn't speak much, so we wonder if she's trying to spruce up her and Vogue's image by talking about her charity work. She may as well remind us all she does quite a bit of good for the world in addition to producing an exceedingly out-of-touch magazine. We will be there in fits of excitement and awe (with a Vogue and purple Sharpie in tow, of course). "

Date: Tuesday, May 12
Time: 8 p.m.
Location: Lexington Avenue at 92nd Street, Kaufmann Concert Hall
Price: $40 Premium Orchestra / $27 Orchestra

The Spirit

Out yesterday, I am quite excited by this film. Looking forward to seeing what's good, I just hope it isn't too much like Sin City, although that is kind of why I want to see it!...That film was boom!

Judging by these movie posters, looks like there will be some cool styling and wardrobe.

OK, so I went to see this, and to be honest, I wasn't that blown away. I expected a better storyline..........To me it was a bit long and disjointed in places, but you know, for others it's a banger. I will say that Eva Mendes looked GREAT in all her glory as Sans Saref, but Scarlett Johannsen didn't do anything for me, I felt she looked really uncomfortable and she didn't pull off the sexy assistant to mad Octopus manager role to me!

Costumes killed it though!!

Ethiopia: Peoples of the Omo Valley

"In this ambitious work, Hans Silvester turns his photographic eye toward ancient Africa, the birthplace of humanity. Silvester was essentially adopted by his subjects during his travels, and his stunning color photographs present a rare, intimate view of their world."

"The first volume of this deluxe two-volume set presents the everyday lives of the Omo people, their rituals, parades, children’s games, and even their battles. In the second volume, each photograph becomes a masterpiece of abstract art, revealing close-ups of the tribes’ traditional body paintings. Silvester’s accompanying text traces his journey to the Horn of Africa, revealing the fascinating beauty of a world now in danger of extinction."

These photos are amazing!! It puts any kind of originality you profess to have to shame really.......These people are not aware of what is going on elsewhere in the world, and to have such a crazy style using natural resources amazes me. If the book wasn't so expensive i'd have it by now. If your feelin a little flash, or you got extra christmas money, buy the book here

MMM, we likes.....

Nike Zoom Lebron VI (6)

The new Nike Zoom Lebron VI (6) takes inspiration from Lebron James' childhood, and will only be available in kids shoe sizes, but I just thought these were great. Featured on the sole is a childhood picture of Lebron playing on a miniature basketball hoop. (Imagine if/when Nike i-d start incorporating pictures into the soles!!) Styled on the christmas holiday, on the inside of the sneaker is a Christmas tree at the back of the ankle. Luckily these are not to christmasy, and could be worn all year round.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

I hope everybody had a great Christmas and new year!!! The time, as usulal flew on by. All in all it was a chilled event for myself, I took a trip to London and spent a few days mashing it up as my time here in Cambridge is very slow paced! Anyways, happy holidays, and back to work hey!
